Do I need to watch the original Candyman?

The 2021 Candyman film is a sequel to the original 1992 Candyman. However, you don;’t necessarily need to have seen the original film in order to watch the new Candyman.
The sequel is very good at discussing Cabrini Green and Helen Lyle in a way that allows you to get up to speed with the previous narrative and the role it plays in this story. It also frequently makes reference to Tony Todd’s Candyman and how it fits in with Anthony’s own story.
So you definitely don’t need to have seen the 1992 Candyman to be able to follow the narrative of the 2021 sequel. However, you may get more out of the story if you’ve seen the previous film first
